Bari is the capital city of the Apulia Region. A beautiful seaside town, it is on the Eastern coast of Italy on the Adriatic Sea. With about 320,000 people living, Bari is a very active city. The medieval Old Town is very peculiar, with the well-known Saint Nicholas Basilica built during 11th century where the remains of Saint Nicholas are preserved. Today Bari is a modern city, visited by many people from all over the world. Another important monument is the Norman-Swabian Castle, built by the Normans in the 12th century and restored by Frederick II around 1230. A building worth a visit is the lyric Petruzzelli theatre, one of the most famous in Italy. Interesting museums are the Archaeological Museum, the Provincial picture gallery, the Civic History Museum and the Botanical Gardens Institute. Important events include the festivities in May 7-9 of Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of the town, and the exhibitions at the Fiera del Levante in September.

Bari Palese airport, called Karol Wojtyla Airport, is located 9 km north-west of city center. Bari airport has daily connections with Rome and Milan, and with many other cities in Italy and Europe.

The Central Train Station is located downtown, at 550 meters from Piazza Cesare Battisti. Several direct trains connect Bari to Rome and Milan and to many other cities.

Coming by car, Bari is an exit of highway A14. Highways A14 and A16 connect Bari to Rome (about 4 hours driving); highways A14 and A1 connect Bari to Milan (about 8 hours driving).


If you arrive by plane To reach the conference venue from the airport, you have the following alternatives:

- “Tempesta Shuttle” travels every hour from the Airport to the Central Train Station (Bari Centrale) and vice versa. Journey time is 25/30 minutes. Tickets are sold on board only. The cost is 4.00 €. The shuttle bus timetable is available here (https://www.autoservizitempesta.it/)

- Trains (Nord-Barese Railways) are available from Bari airport to city center. Journey time is 14 minutes. Tickets are sold at the ticket machines. The cost is 5.00 €. Timetable and further information are available here (https://www.ferrovienordbarese.it/home). Take the train to “Bari Centrale”.

- The meeting venue is a few minutes walking distance from the Central Train Station (550 m). From the train station, go ovest (left) to Piazza Aldo Moro (170 m), then proceed straight in Via Raffaele de Cesare (84 m) and then to Piazza Umberto I (170 m). Turn left in via Domenico Nicolai and proceed for 140 m. Turn left in Piazza Cesare Battisti.

- A taxi station is to be found in the square in front of the airport on the arrivals floor. Taxi from airport to the city centre costs 25,00 €, according to the flat rate established by the city council. Passengers have to advise the driver that they want to benefit from the flat rate when getting in the taxi. The flat rate is independent of the number of passengers and includes any possible surcharge. Multiple destinations are not allowed with this flate rate.

- Rent a car. In the airport, on the arrival floor, you can find different rental car companies.

From Bypass Road SS16 Nord Sud For those arriving from the North (from Foggia 16/Bis9): exit Porto-Fiera del Levante.

For those arriving from the South (from Lecce, Brindisi): exit Porto-Fiera del Levante.

Go Straight to the City Centre (about 4 km).

Park & ride PARK & RIDE, allows to park the vehicle in the peripheral interchange parking areas and to reach the center by public transport called "shuttle buses".

The rate applied for the Park &​​ Ride consists of a day ticket of € 1.00, valid in the issue parking area, which includes, in addition to the cost of parking in the interchange area, also the possibility, for the driver of the vehicle to use the shuttle buses free of charge along the route that leads from the parking area to the city center. Passengers of the parked vehicle (other than the driver) can use the shuttle bus by purchasing a ticket costing € 0.30 valid for the whole day.

Tickets and passes are valid only in the issue parking area and for the shuttle associated with it.
